How? Tell Me How?
How do you know that the sun will rise tomorrow?
How could you be so sure that the night won’t bite?
How can you predict that the rain won’t wash us all away?
And just how could you drive without fearing that the road
won’t go sinking in?
How? Tell me how do you live with so much peace?
Preach me the lessons you never had to teach.
“How? Tell Me How?” is a poem that explores the uncertainties of life and the calm assurance some people seem to possess despite these unknowns. Through this poem, I wanted to voice the questions that many of us grapple with and seek insight from those who appear to live with a sense of peace.
In writing this poem, I asked questions that reflect common doubts and fears. How do we know that the sun will rise tomorrow? How can we be sure that the night won’t bring harm? These questions are about the basic uncertainties that we all live with daily. They emphasize that, despite not knowing what the future holds, we still move forward with hope and trust.
The poem continues with questions about safety and stability—wondering how we can predict that rain won’t cause destruction or that the roads we travel on will remain secure. These concerns highlight our underlying anxieties about the unpredictability of life and our environment.
I also wanted to touch on a more personal level of this uncertainty. The poem asks how one can live with so much peace amidst all these doubts. It’s a request for understanding and guidance, seeking to learn from those who seem to have found a way to live calmly despite the unknowns.
In “How? Tell Me How?”, I aimed to reflect on the contrast between living with uncertainty and the serene confidence that some people have. It’s a way to express the human desire for stability and assurance, and the quest to find inner peace in an unpredictable world.
